Fountain Pen - Pilot Custom Heritage 92

As a professional in northeastern Canada who rarely has time for writing with a fountain pen, I realized that there is something mystical about writing with fountain pens as opposed to ordinary ballpoint pens. The Custom Heritage 92 fountain pen is being reviewed over 5 months of usage with a Fine (F) grade nib.

Finely crafted by the fountain pen artisans at Pilot Corporation in Japan, the singularly smooth performance is a hallmark of the Pilot # 5 nib, constructed in 14k rhodium plated gold- translation: exceptionally smooth writing.  The newly made CH 92 is made with a grey tint to the lower barrel and around the screw-on cap, as well as the piston region.

The nib writes 0.4mm lines when applied with medium writing pressure.  The joy of writing with a piston-filling demonstrator is that you get to see the amount of ink that's left, while adding to its aesthetic looks. According to the manufacturer specification, the piston holds approximately 1.2 ml of ink. This would equal too many pages of writing without having to refill.

The most strongpoints of the pen are its aesthetics. With its singular look, I know I am about to write an Intriguing journal entry, very deep short story or rather to sign important documents. Second most valued note would be the smoothness of the nib. The cap is posted as I have large hands and enjoy the extra weight. The pen itself arrived in a durable plastic box and with cleaning instructions. There is not much I do not like this pen after spending 5 months besides having a bit of nib creep, but that is a characteristic of Noodler’s ink and not the nib. I must also admit that my Sailor 1911 nib feels smoother than the Pilot #5 nib.

Conclusion: Exceptional price for exceptional writing performance and craftsmanship.Offered through various choices of barrel colours and nib sizes.
